Special education is the practice of educating students in a way that accommodates their individual differences, disabilities, and special needs. Special education is designed to meet the unique needs of each child with Special Education Needs (SEN). It is based on the idea that all children have the right to a high-quality education, regardless of their abilities or challenges. Special education typically involves adapting the curriculum, teaching methods, and learning environment to meet the individual needs of each child.
The main objectives in educating a child with Special Education Needs (SEN) are
- To provide them with the support and accommodations they need to reach their full potential. This often involves working closely with the child, their parents, and a team of educators to create an individualized education plan (IEP) that meets their unique needs.
- To provide advanced level instruction that makes appropriate use of adaptive devices, benchmarks, additional aids, and services, programs modifications, student learning settings, and advance evaluations.
- To help a child with Special Education Needs (SEN) to develop the skills and abilities they need to be successful in the wider world. This may include teaching them social skills, self-care skills, and vocational skills, as well as providing them with opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities and community programs.
- In addition to these specific objectives, the broader goal of educating a child with Special Education Needs (SEN) is to help them lead happy, fulfilling lives. This means providing them with the tools and support they need to achieve their goals and live independently, as well as promoting their inclusion and participation intheir communities.
